The Saint John Art Club and Gallery are run by volunteers. We encourage all members to participate as a Gallery Attendant and/or to sit on a committee. You will be asked to (optionally) indicate your areas of interest as you submit your membership form.
Saint John Art Club Gallery Rules
Gallery Hours: 11-3 Tuesday to Saturday.
Members and Honorary Members are entitled to hang 2 large or 3 small to medium paintings or drawings. These must be original works.
All paintings must be gallery-ready i.e. framed with a hook or wire for hanging. If unframed, the edges must be painted. Artisis must price their own work. Sold paintings can be replaced during the month they are sold if the artisit wishes. All work is the sole responsibility of the artist.
The decision about the acceptability of artwork is to be determined by members responsible for hanging on that day. Subjects must be suitable for display to the general public. This may be appealed to the board as per the club bylaws.
Change day is the last Saturday of the month. Every member is expected to take home paintings that have been hung in the gallery for three (3) months. Paintings brought into the gallery other than on Change Day will be kept in the back room until the next Change Day.
Paintings left in the Gallery for more than a year become property of Saint John Art Club Inc.
All members are expected to help in the running of the Gallery and/or serve on a committee or as a member of the Board of Directors for SJAC.
The commission on all sales is 20% which helps with Gallery expenses. If a gallery attendant sells their own work on a day when they are working, the commission is waived.
Members are entitled to be Artist Of The Month once every 18 months, depending on availability.
Thanks yo for respecting these policies. These rules are written and endorsed the the Board of Saint John Art Club.
